Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and learning

  • Teaching of modules in B.Ed., PGCE and B.Ed. Hons on contact and distance mode in a multimodal environment.
  • The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
  • Initiation and development of subject material.

Research and Innovation

  • The conduct of research.
  • Involvement in professional activity.
  • Supervision of post-graduate students; publish in accredited journals, proceedings, or chapters in books.

Community Engagement

  • Initiate and manage community engagement projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • A master’s (NQF level 9) degree in Mathematics Education.
  • A professional teacher’s qualification.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ applicable teaching experience in a school context and/or higher education environment in Mathematics and /or Mathematics Education.

Added Advantages & Preferences

  • First degree (BSc or B.Ed) with Mathematics as a major subject up to level 3.
  • Registration with SACE.

Key Functional/Technical Competencies

  • Fundamental knowledge of Mathematical concepts to teach Mathematics content models for undergraduate B.Ed and Hons students.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet.
  • Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
  • Research outputs: Publications, supervision and/or other research activity.
  • Applications for research funding for projects.
  • Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.

Key Behavioural Competencies

  • Effective time-management skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal relations and client-service orientation.
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
