Senior Safety Officer - Telecommunications

We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Officer to join the Telecommunications Branch, playing a key role in maintaining the highest standards of occupational health and safety across all work environments.

Introduction:

As a Senior Safety Officer, you will develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety strategies, systems, and structures within the Telecommunications Branch. Your focus will be ensuring legal compliance with safety regulations, conducting hazard analyses, and promoting a safe working environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Health & Safety Systems: Develop and maintain frameworks ensuring compliance with legal and industry standards, including OHSACT and COID ACT.
  2. Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular inspections, internal audits, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with safety policies.
  3. Hazard Analysis & Mitigation: Lead hazard analyses and develop action plans to mitigate risks.
  4. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ensure proper PPE is provided and worn by personnel, contractors, and visitors.
  5. Training & Orientation: Develop and deliver safety training to ensure familiarity with safety standards.
Incident Reporting:

Document and report occupational health and safety incidents and compliance status.

Collaboration:

Coordinate with other safety officials and departments to maintain safety consistency.

Safety Leadership:

Enforce safety measures and disciplinary actions for violations.

Administrative Duties:

Support safety procedures and protocols administratively.

Requirements, Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education: 3-year National Diploma, B-TECH, or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • Experience: Over 10 years in Health & Safety, especially in telecommunications and public sectors.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of safety legislation and best practices in relevant environments.
  • Professional Registration: Registration with a safety professional body is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong administrative skills, leadership in safety programs, and compliance enforcement.
  • Requirements: Valid driver's license, physical fitness, and availability 24/7 if needed.
