Our client based in the Gauteng region is looking for a highly skilled, analytical, and experienced Data Analyst to join their operations department, specializing in data analytics as part of our short-term insurance team. This role will involve extracting valuable insights, interpreting and translating complex datasets and providing data-driven recommendations to support decision-making across various departments.
Duties:
Business / Data Analysis
- Collect, validate, and analyze data all current data; insurance policies, claims and demographics.
- Utilize effective statistical methods to identify trends, patterns, and correlations in the data.
- Review and understand the business and processes.
- Engage in active listening to determine the data requirements.
- Drive analytical projects to achieve defined objectives, focusing on delivering actionable insights.
Data Management & Preparation
- Conduct thorough data cleansing processes to eliminate inaccuracies and inconsistencies.
- Structure data sets to ensure they meet quality standards and are ready for analysis.
Modelling of Data
- Organize data in the best way possible for regular and ad hoc reporting outputs.
- Determine all data modelling requirements needed to run regular and ad hoc reports.
- Test all data requirements before finalizing any form of reporting.
Risk & Financial Analysis
- Assess and quantify risks associated with insurance policies and portfolios using actuarial techniques and models.
- Calculate probabilities of future events such as claims and losses.
Premium Analysis and Modelling
- Evaluate the impact of premium adjustments and pricing strategies on financial performance and
- risk exposure.
- Conduct thorough analysis to understand implications on revenue, profitability, and market competitiveness
Understanding Loss Ratios
- Develop a thorough understanding of loss ratios to evaluate the performance of insurance products
- and portfolios.
- Provide insights and recommendations to optimize pricing strategies and mitigate risk exposure.
Blackbox Development
- Collaborate with the Head of Data to identify challenges and opportunities within the data landscape.
- Develop and maintain the Blackbox and other advanced tools for extracting insights.
- Enhance predictive models to assess potential impacts of market conditions and regulatory changes.
- Development & Continuous Learning
- Evaluation and Recommendations
- Document required procedures for all regular established reporting outputs.
- Effectively communicate findings, methodologies, and recommendations to technical teams and stakeholders.
- Pursue professional development opportunities to stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in actuarial and data science.
- Embrace innovation by exploring new techniques, methodologies, and technologies to enhance data analysis and modelling.
Qualifications
- Matric (maths core is a requirement).
- Related tertiary qualification (mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, data analytics or computer science)
