As part of our continued growth, we are currently seeking a Collections Specialist to join our dynamic team.
Position Overview:
Pineapple Tech (Pty) Ltd is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Collections Specialist to manage our premium collections and related processes. Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, the Collections Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate collection of insurance premiums, effectively minimising outstanding debts to drive successful collection outcomes. This role requires strong communication, problem-solving skills, and a thorough understanding of collections best practices within the South African context.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute the end-to-end premium collection/ recollection and unpaid process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all collection activities and account statuses within the company's systems.
- Identify and escalate complex or high-risk collection cases to the appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve collection rates and reduce receivables.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as Customer Service and Underwriting, to resolve customer collection issues.
- Prepare regular reports on collection activities and performance for management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant South African regulations and company policies related to collections.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve collection processes and efficiency.
- Utilise Sequel for data extraction, analysis, and reporting related to collections activities.
- Implement strategies to improve collection success
- Demonstrate an understanding of DebiCheck processes and how they relate to premium collections, with a focus on identifying opportunities for improvement to increase collection rates.
- Manage claims related payments and optimise for rebates.
- Manage premium refund payments.
- Manage the process for handling returned or failed premium payments, including investigation and resolution.
- Oversee the monthly reconciliation of premium collections against billing systems and bank statements (i.e. cash).
- Matching of collections to individual consumers and transactions.
- Performance of detailed reconciliations and analytical processes to ensure integrity of process vs expectation and managing process and failsafes.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 12 certificate/Matric
- Registered CA(SA)/Actuary is preferred. Similar financial qualifications will be advantageous
- 3+ years of experience in a collections role, preferably within the insurance or financial services sectors.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Strong understanding of collections principles, practices, and relevant South African legislation.
- Skills in SQL and database management as well as Mongo DB will be an advantage
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using relevant software and systems for collections management and record-keeping.
- Must be proficient in SQL for querying and analysing data.
- Understanding of the Debicheck payment system and the ability to identify how its
- processes can be optimised for increased collections.
- Strong analytical and strategic capability combined with an ability to build, implement and
- maintain robust processes with failsafes and safety checks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive and results-oriented approach.
- Must be an orderly and well-organised individual.
- Ideal: Proven experience in a collections role, preferably within the insurance services industry in South Africa.
