Job description

A well-established business is seeking to appoint a Manager : Data Science.

Position Info:

Minimum Education and Experience:

  1. Master’s degree or higher in Data Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field. Actuary (AMASSA / FASSA), Statistician or Data Scientist credentials are advantageous but not necessary.
  2. 7-10 years of experience in Actuarial Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Analytics, Mathematical Statistics, Computer Science, or Business Intelligence within data management and analytics (e.g., actuarial, statistical).
  3. Knowledge of Actuarial Software (e.g., Prophet, Moses, Basys) or programming/database tools (e.g., SQL, PowerBI, QlikView, SAS, R, Python, Tableau).
  4. Experience with Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence Governance.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Experience with Predictive Analytics, Pricing Methodologies, and Machine Learning.
  7. Understanding of Statistical/Actuarial models and Analytical Methods.
  8. Database management and querying skills.
  9. Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, POPIA, AML).
  10. Proficiency in data technologies and tools (e.g., data lakes, data warehouses, data visualization, machine learning).
  11. Knowledge of Actuarial Methodologies, principles, regulations, and legislation related to actuarial policies, models, and processes.
  12. Understanding of relevant legislation for insurance companies such as the Insurance Act of 2017, Prudential Standards, and IFRS 17.
  13. Ability to interpret Financial Statements, Accounting Ratios, and Risk Metrics.
