Information Technology Software Product Owner

Remote (Cape Town or Johannesburg)

Job Purpose :

The Software Product Owner is responsible for defining and driving the vision, scope, and delivery of software products by transforming business requirements into technical solutions. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, the Product Owner ensures effective development and implementation of product features to improve systems and processes. This role requires strong software development management experience, stakeholder engagement, and a deep understanding of Agile and Waterfall methodologies, especially within the retail industry.

Job Specification :

  • The Software Product Owner will elicit, facilitate, synthesise, and present technical solutions.
  • The candidate will use business requirements to drive the design or review of products define a product vision, scope, acceptance, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, design, marketing, sales) to deliver product features.
  • Write user stories, acceptance criteria, and ensure clear communication of requirements.
  • The successful candidate will form part of the IT team and report to the Software Product Manager.
  • Our ideal candidate can work on multiple projects simultaneously and translate business data into usable information, which will help to improve systems and processes.
  • Continuously analyze market trends, competitor products, and customer feedback to improve the product.
  • Consult various customers (internal and external) to understand their value chain, structure, functions, and products and / or services.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Challenge the business in their thinking, especially to understand the intent of the business requirement.
  • With little supervision, elicit, gather, analyse, document, validate and communicate business requirements (Agile and Waterfall Formats)
  • Guide a business analyst on the requirements of the product.
  • Guide a UX / UI designer on the requirements of the product feature.
  • Determine the feasibility of a proposed project.
  • Understand the commercial importance of changes or new features.
  • Estimate total project duration based on experience.
  • Facilitate Design Thinking Workshops.
  • Manage User Acceptance Testing

Qualifications : Essential :

  • Matric / Grade 12 or A-Levels
  • Minimum of 5 years’ previous experience as a Product Owner in software development projects. Minimum of
  • 2 years’ experience in Agile Software development Projects.
  • Business Analyst / Product Owner experience in the Retail Industry (Advantageous).
