Job description

Job Title: Business Applications Solutions Architect

Location: Umhlanga and remote from home (hybrid)

Reports To: ERP Technical Lead

Contract Term: Initial 6 months (may be renewed)

Travel: Hybrid (limited travel as needed)

Rate: R1000 p/h

About the Role:

• Proactively and holistically lead and support solution architecture activities that guide the development and management of business applications.
• Provide the necessary leadership, analysis, and design tasks related to supporting the development of technology solutions.
• Support data-driven decision-making through architecture of BI/reporting tools such as Power BI, and backend systems like Microsoft SQL Server.
• Provide expert-level support for business-critical applications, focusing on HSE systems including health and safety management, environmental monitoring, and compliance tracking.

Key Responsibilities:

Interpret business needs and develop and maintain business applications IT strategy.

• Translate business & technical requirements into an architectural blueprint to achieve business objectives & document all solution architecture design & analysis work.
• Develop and articulate a clear technical vision for application solutions, aligning with the company's technology roadmap and architectural principles.
• Serve as a liaison between the business, solution architects, and the AMS functional teams.
• Work closely with other solution owners and managers to ensure a robust architectural runway supporting future business applications and catalog requirements throughout the product lifecycle.

Application design and solution delivery:

• Analyze and troubleshoot complex issues across multiple platforms, ensuring high availability and performance of applications.
• Provide expert-level support for business-critical applications, focusing on HSE systems including health and safety management, environmental monitoring, and compliance tracking.
• Support the migration of business applications to the cloud.
• Support the Jivs archiving system.

Assess Technology Solutions and ITSC:

• Support solution and service managers in end-of-life product decisions to maintain, refresh, or retire services, applications, technologies, processes, and information.
• Understand emerging technology trends and their practical applications to enable new and evolving applications and operating models.
• Analyze the technology industry, competitors, and market trends to determine their potential implications for given solutions.
• Analyze the Applications-IT environment to detect critical deficiencies, legacy issues, and technical debt, and recommend improvements.
• Act as a consultant and advisor to functions and solution delivery on a broad range of development technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes.
• Take accountability for ensuring solution implementations and changes deliver business requirements.

Key Performance Indicators:

• Integrated technical management and controls.
• Technical and audit controls applied with 90% audit compliance, zero high-priority findings.
• Current state architecture documentation, vendor assessments for RFPs, contribution to cost/benefit analysis, and contributions to proof-of-concept implementations.
• Solution documentation, enterprise target state architecture, application/platform strategy.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or relevant tertiary qualification.
• 10+ years supporting business applications.
• Knowledge of Power BI and data analysis.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL, Power BI, and data visualization tools.
• Experience working with HSE applications and systems, including health and safety management, environmental monitoring, and compliance tracking.
• Excellent facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to translate complexity into simplicity.
