Job Title: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor Specialising in Pastoral Theology and Praxis/Pastoral Care and Counselling

Department: Practical and Missional Theology

Location: Free State, Bloemfontein

Deadline: June 16, 2025

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Present undergraduate and postgraduate modules in pastoral theology and praxis, including pastoral care and counselling or therapy within diverse cultural and African contexts.
  2. Conduct research within the broader framework of pastoral theology and praxis, exploring its interdisciplinary potential.
  3. Publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed and DHET-accredited journals.
  4. Present research findings at scientific conferences.
  5. Secure funding for research from international and national sources.
  6. Participate in professional communities and scholarly engagements.
  7. Supervise postgraduate students at master's and PhD levels.
  8. Engage in departmental and faculty leadership and administrative activities.
  9. Participate in community engagement and in-service learning activities.
Inherent Job Requirements
For Lecturer
  • PhD on NQF Level 10 in Practical Theology with specialisation in pastoral theology and praxis/pastoral care and counselling (for permanent appointment).
  • or Master’s degree on NQF Level 9 with relevant thesis/publications, with a requirement to obtain a PhD within five years for permanent appointment.
  • Proven experience in conference presentations and manuscript development for publication.
  • Good academic record (please attach proof).
For Senior Lecturer
  • PhD on NQF Level 10 in Practical Theology with relevant publications.
  • Experience presenting at national scholarly conferences.
  • Recognition for expertise and research in a specific area.
  • NRF rating or potential to obtain one.
  • Experience supervising master's students.
  • Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Active membership in scholarly societies or research agencies.
For Associate Professor
  • PhD on NQF Level 10 in Practical Theology with relevant publications.
  • Experience as an external examiner and presenting at national conferences.
  • Service on editorial boards of scholarly journals.
  • Recognition as a research leader in a specific field.
  • NRF rating of C3 or equivalent.
  • Experience supervising graduate students.
  • Publications in DHET-accredited journals.
  • Participation in scholarly societies or research committees at national or international levels.
