Job description

Job purpose

GEW is seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer to join our team. In this role, you will serve as the key link between our engineering team and end-users, crafting clear, accurate, and user-focused technical documentation. Your work will play a pivotal role in ensuring customers fully understand and can operate Hensoldt GEW systems with confidence.

You’ll be responsible for producing training materials, manuals, guides, and documentation that transform complex technical concepts into accessible, actionable content. If you have a passion for precision, strong analytical thinking, and a love for translating engineering language into plain English—this could be your next big opportunity.

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Minimum: Diploma in Publishing, Business Information Sciences, Engineering, or IT.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in technical writing (5+ years preferred).
  • Exposure to ASD-STE-100, military documentation standards, or Plain English principles is advantageous.
  • Editorial experience will be a strong asset.

Key technical skills and experience required:

  • Proven accuracy and thoroughness in technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication and analytical reasoning.
  • Practical mindset with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Client-centric approach with strong relationship management skills.
  • Sound judgment and a proactive work ethic.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Adobe FrameMaker, Dr.Explain, Snagit, CamStudio.
  • Experience with image editing tools is a plus.

Key responsibility areas

1. Compile Technical Manuals & Training Materials

  • Create high-quality technical documentation (user manuals, installation/maintenance guides, SOPs, etc.).
  • Collaborate with engineers to capture and translate complex concepts.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with ISO, MIL-STD, and DEF-STAN standards.
  • Maintain version control and format for both digital and print distribution.

2. Technical Research & Review

  • Conduct in-depth research to understand systems/products.
  • Participate in product testing to validate documentation.
  • Liaise with SMEs to ensure accuracy and clarity in content.
  • Benchmark industry standards to elevate documentation quality.

3. Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify and implement documentation process improvements.
  • Gather and apply user feedback to enhance content usability.
  • Manage technical content through CMS platforms and ensure regular updates.
