Database Management

Position Overview:
Database Management will spearhead the design, implementation, and governance of enterprise-wide database systems. This role ensures optimal performance, security, and scalability of SQL Server environments while driving compliance and supporting strategic digital initiatives.

Core Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute a forward-looking strategy for the organization's database infrastructure.
  • Align database systems with business intelligence tools, enterprise applications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee capacity planning, lifecycle management, and robust disaster recovery protocols.

Technical Management

  • Administer and optimize SQL Server deployments, including clustered, virtual, and cloud-based systems.
  • Lead resolution efforts for critical database incidents and performance bottlenecks.
  • Govern change management, patching, and maintenance workflows.

Governance & Compliance

  • Enforce data governance frameworks, access controls, and audit trails in line with standards like ISO 27001 and POPIA.
  • Safeguard sensitive data across clinical, financial, and operational domains.
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to uphold organizational security policies.

Collaboration & Support

  • Collaborate with analytics and business teams to ensure databases meet reporting and operational needs.
  • Provide strategic guidance during projects involving data migrations, upgrades, or structural changes.

Team Development

  • Build and mentor a high-performing team of Database Administrators and Engineers.
  • Establish best practices, documentation standards, and targeted training programs.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).

Experience:

  • 8-10 years of hands-on SQL Server database administration.
  • 3+ years in a leadership role overseeing database teams or large-scale environments.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in clustered SQL architectures, SSIS/SSRS, Power BI integration, and data warehousing.
  • Deep understanding of data governance, backup strategies, and regulatory compliance.
