Job description

The company is one of the leading manufacturers of specialised 'critical to operating' and recurring consumable products for the global mineral beneficiation, mining, and bulk solids handling industry.

The company is the second largest producer of polymer-based mill liners, which are critical components in driving efficiency and lowering cost per ton of operation.

It has manufacturing facilities in India, South Africa, Australia, and Chile, and exports its products and solutions to over 70 countries.

About the Role

Ensure availability of production equipment and arrange for building maintenance and repairs as required.

Daily interaction with Production Manager, Industrial Foreman, and Mining Foreman on equipment maintenance and repairs; as required interaction with Heads of Departments (HODs) on maintenance and repairs of buildings; with Manager Operations on installation and commissioning of new equipment; with the Buyer on procurement of materials and external service providers; and with the Tool Room Supervisor on component fabrication needed for equipment repairs.

Coordinate with Maintenance and Repair Suppliers; Equipment suppliers for installation and commissioning of new equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Planning

  • Prepare preventative maintenance schedules for all production equipment.
  • Plan repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Allocate work to Maintenance Supervisor and outsource work when necessary.
  • Manage material requisitions and supplier interactions for maintenance and repairs.
  • Discuss daily work allocation and progress with Supervisor to ensure optimal equipment utilization.
  • Maintain history files on all equipment for preventive maintenance and critical spares inventory.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Execute activities using SAP PM module.
  • Aim for zero breakdowns and production loss due to equipment failure.
  • Lead all improvement projects.
  • Ensure availability of correct materials and quantities, and inspect quality before use.
  • Update critical equipment and spares list and ensure their availability.

Labour and Contractor Management

  • Ensure sufficient skilled personnel for maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure legal compliance, recruitment, and discipline within the Maintenance Department.
  • Oversee contractor activities to ensure compliance with legal and company standards.

Equipment and Consumables

  • Maintain equipment in good condition, restricting access to qualified personnel.
  • Maintain sufficient consumables to prevent delays.
  • Conduct monthly stock takes.

Reporting and Communication

  • Attend weekly and monthly meetings including OHS reviews.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules with production HODs.
  • Provide monthly equipment utilization reports to the Manager Operations.

SHEQ Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, particularly regarding lifting equipment and vessels under pressure, including registration, certification, and regular servicing. Promote awareness of the company's quality management system and legal requirements, and ensure subordinates' adherence to these standards.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 with mathematics.
  • Graduate or certified Mechanical Engineer.
  • Minimum 10 years of maintenance experience with production equipment such as hydraulics, cranes, boilers, and compressors.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic financial and administrative skills.
