ACCOUNTANT / BOOKKEEPER (Property/Finserv) - R 40,000PM - NEWLANDS, CPT

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain full set of books to trial balance.
• Process daily, weekly, and monthly transactions in accounting systems (e.g., Pastel, Sage, Xero).
• Reconcile bank, cashbook, debtors, creditors, and other ledger accounts.
• Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, UIF, and other statutory returns.
• Manage accounts receivable and payable cycles.
• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts.
• Liaise with clients to obtain necessary documentation.
• Handle SARS e-filing and liaise with SARS on queries.
• Support the accounting team with year-end audits and financial statements.
• Maintain proper filing and recordkeeping in line with firm protocols.

Requirements

2+ years experience
• Diploma or Certificate in Bookkeeping / Accounting (e.g., ICB, SAIPA, or similar).
• Advanced Excel skills preferred.
• Experience with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, or Pastel.
• Knowledge of VAT, PAYE, and SARS compliance.

Technical Skills:
• Proficient in accounting packages and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of South African tax laws and compliance procedures.

Soft Skills:
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to multitask and handle pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Client-focused with a professional demeanor.

Desirable (Not Essential):
• Experience working with cloud-based accounting tools.
• SAIPA or SAIBA membership or working toward it.
• Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Sage Payroll).
