MEDICAL REGISTRAR - Peadiatrics & Child Health

Requirements :

  • Grade 12 and an appropriate qualification that allows registration as an independent Practitioner. No experience required for Grade 1. Must have completed Post Community Service. Registration with HPCSA for the financial year 2025/26. The incumbent should be willing to be rotated between institutions.

Duties :

  • The incumbent will interview, investigate, diagnose, and oversee the treatment of patients. Administrative duties include participating in teaching and research activities, departmental audits, report preparation, liaison, and community engagement. Supervise junior doctors (undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors). Willingness to work longer hours (night, weekend, and public holidays) to ensure continuous patient care. Attend administrative meetings such as mortality and near-miss meetings, and complete medico-legal documents promptly (e.g., death certificates). Improve quality of care and reduce medical litigation through good clinical practice. Implement and monitor adherence to National Core Standards. Participate in multidisciplinary team management, perform relevant practical procedures, and engage in departmental meetings, journal clubs, case presentations, lectures, and ward rounds. Provide clinical assessment and treatment of patients. The position involves rotation through related departments at various hospitals as part of outreach programs.

  • This is a joint appointment between the Gauteng Department of Health and academic institutions such as the University of Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, and Sefako Makgatho University.
