Job description

Position Summary:

The National Research Foundation (NRF) seeks to appoint a Business Intelligence Developer within the Data Science directorate, part of the Digital Transformation business unit. The incumbent will support the Senior Business Intelligence Specialist in developing, supporting, maintaining, and expanding the NRF Business Intelligence (BI) Architecture, which hosts internal and external BI systems and the staging area, to facilitate data provision for strategic, management, and analytical decision-making for NRF and the broader National System of Innovation (NSI).

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop, maintain, and enhance integration with source systems, including legacy and active systems such as ERP, with the NRF BI Architecture.
  2. Develop integration packages to import data into the BI Staging Area.
  3. Create procedures to clean, transform, validate data, and report discrepancies.
  4. Schedule jobs to run regularly based on dataset requirements.
  5. Develop, maintain, and enhance reporting functionalities, including interactive dashboards and reports, and implement user training.
  6. Ensure correct dashboard/report distribution and maintain role-based security.
  7. Create training manuals, documentation, and videos to assist users.
  8. Provide ad-hoc datasets and reports upon request.
  9. Propose developments and innovative solutions to enhance service quality and efficiency.
  10. Update, maintain, and fine-tune software, perform database and server cleaning, and optimize software use.
  11. Ensure data security, backups, and stakeholder engagement through training, workshops, and regular briefings.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7
Minimum Experience:
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in database creation and maintenance, including database design (preferably Microsoft SQL), Business Intelligence reporting/dashboards (preferably Power BI/SQL Reporting Services), and integration services (preferably SQL Server Integration Services).
Additional Experience and Skills:
  • Experience with database maintenance, stakeholder engagement, logical and critical thinking, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, problem-solving, communication, presentation, data collection, and analytical capabilities.
Knowledge:
  • MS SQL Server development and administration, Reporting Services, Integration Services, database development, system integration, and Business Intelligence development practices.
