Overview

A well-established, fast-growing group of companies with an equal opportunity policy is seeking to fill a position in Cape Town.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure proper planning to minimize vehicle turnaround times on site.
  2. Assist operations and drivers with vehicle flow in and out of the depot and other sites.
  3. Communicate cargo and equipment needs (bells, corner plates, sails, etc.) promptly to the responsible sections.
  4. Coordinate daily planning with Upington and Johannesburg operations regarding loading, offloading, and truck availability.
  5. Allocate loads to fleets through continuous liaison with schedulers, ensuring fair and effective prioritization.
  6. Ensure loading complies with company policy and legislation.
  7. Ensure pre-loads are completed on time and fully.
  8. Verify trailers are suitable for loading without risk of damage or contamination.
  9. Communicate loading instructions in advance to drivers and schedulers.
  10. Park trucks and trailers orderly to prevent damage and optimize site utilization.
  11. Maintain vehicle cleanliness and address any issues with the respective scheduler.
  12. Handle after-hours assignments with proper documentation at Security.
  13. Assist management, operations, and drivers with additional functions as needed.
  14. Ensure loading and offloading proceed efficiently and according to schedule.
  15. Verify client orders daily for loads, times, dates, and regulations.
  16. Obtain necessary internal approvals before loading.
  17. Coordinate with warehouses for unloading and ensure proper documentation and timing.
  18. Liaise with customers regarding load and unload schedules and deviations.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Grade 12 qualification
  • 3-5 years' supervisory or managerial experience in the long-distance transport industry
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in logistics (advantageous)
  • Organizational skills and good communication (verbal & written)
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety standards
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with working time legislation
  • Valid Driver's license
