The Graduate School of Media & Communications (GSMC)

MA in Digital Journalism (MADJ)

GSMC’s Masters in Digital Journalism (MADJ) trains students to be multimedia journalists and equips them with skills to address complex issues reshaping East African society. Students work with renowned journalists and scholars, blending practice, reflection, and theory. The programme features state-of-the-art facilities, expertise in multiplatform storytelling, specialist reporting, and editorial leadership. The culmination includes a specialist reporting project and research thesis. Focusing on regional issues and global trends, we aim for graduates to develop creativity, critical thinking, and professional competence to lead East Africa’s media in the 21st century.

Executive Masters in Media Leadership & Innovation (EMMLI)

This 24-month MBA-style programme develops leadership skills to advance media business vision and strategy. EMMLI fosters innovation and entrepreneurship, preparing participants to start new media ventures or transform existing ones in response to market changes. Designed to address leadership and innovation needs in emerging economies like East Africa, its four pillars are:

Professional Development & Continuing Education (PDCE)

Our PDCE training aims to build communications capacity amid technological change. We offer short courses and masterclasses for journalists, media professionals, civil society actors, and organizations. Topics range from social media for communicators to specialized training like Health Reporting and Media Engagement.

Responsibilities

Terms of Reference

GSMC invites individuals with strong academic qualifications and relevant professional experience to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) for faculty positions, either full-time or part-time/adjunct/sessional, for one or both graduate programmes.

Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in teaching Journalism, Media, and Communications, with experience in areas such as newsroom management, technical media operations, audio-visual specialization, mobile journalism, social media management, PR, media leadership, organizational change, digital transformation, media innovation, etc.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants wishing to teach full-time must hold a PhD with at least three years of relevant work experience, preferably as a subject specialist. Part-time/adjunct applicants should have at least a Master’s degree and a minimum of seven years of continuous professional experience, or a PhD.

Positions remain open until filled. Individuals with current or existing contracts with GSMC must also respond to this EOI for renewal consideration.
