Job Opportunity: Driver

An opportunity has become available for a Driver.

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the timely, effective, and cost-efficient transportation of goods and passengers.

Key Performance Areas (KPA)

  1. Pre-Trip Procedures
  • Check vehicles according to the Vehicle Inspection Checklist and procedures, then report irregularities to the Dispatch Controller or, in certain zones, to the Head of Inventory or Inventory Shift Supervisor.
  • Receive and sign Trip Instruction Sheets.
  • Ensure name tags are worn at all times.
  • Collect products for transportation with the Delivery Sheet, handling sensitive items like Blood Products with care.
  • Leave a copy of the delivery with the Dispatch Controller.
  • Complete the Trip Sheet with odometer readings and log book entries.
  • Ensure adequate fuel levels; obtain a fuel card if necessary.
  • Verify odometer readings during refueling.
  • Transportation of Goods
    • Complete the Trip Sheet and adhere to delivery timelines and instructions.
    • Report deviations and contact the Dispatch Controller as needed.
    • Drive according to SANBS Rules, Regulations, and the National Road Traffic Act.
    • Handle collection and delivery professionally, ensuring acknowledgment of receipt.
    • Promote SANBS's image at all times.
    • Hand over goods, delivery notes, Trip Sheets, and keys appropriately.
    • Perform vehicle inspections and complete the log book after each trip.
  • Transportation of Passengers (Applicable to non-Technical Drivers)
    • Confirm passenger details with the Dispatch Controller.
    • Collect petty cash for parking fees when applicable.
    • Drive safely to destinations, displaying the SANBS Welcome Board for airport pickups.
    • Greet passengers professionally and escort them if needed.
    • Ensure no unauthorized passengers are transported.
    • Complete the Log Book after trips.
  • Administrative and Support Duties
    • Perform ad hoc duties as required.
    • Answer transport department calls professionally and relay messages.
    • Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
    • Report accidents or incidents promptly, obtaining a case number.
    • For Technical Drivers in Zones, assist with clinic preparations and unpack hampers in the absence of the General Assistant.
