Placements24 is seeking a skilled Drilling Engineer for our client in Tembisa, Gauteng. You will oversee planning, execution, and supervision of drilling campaigns for oil and gas wells, develop drilling programs, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and optimize fluid systems to drive cost efficiency.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, handle wellbore design, mud programs, and real-time performance analysis, and contribute to post-well reviews to capture lessons learned for

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years’ drilling engineering experience.
• Experience with onshore and offshore operations.
• Strong knowledge of drilling fluids, MWD, and well control.
• Proficient in drilling planning and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Develop drilling plans including wellbore trajectory and mud programs.
• Supervise rig site operations ensuring safety and regs.

About the Role

Our client seeks a skilled and safety-conscious Drilling Engineer to join their operations team based in Tembisa . This role is critical for the planning, execution, and supervision of drilling operations for oil and gas wells. You will be responsible for developing drilling programs, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, managing drilling fluid systems, and optimizing drilling efficiency to minimize costs and risks. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a dedicated team of professionals in a demanding yet rewarding environment within the oil and gas sector , ensuring the integrity and success of all drilling campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed drilling plans and programs , including wellbore trajectory, casing design, and mud programs.
• Supervise rig site operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
• Manage and optimize drilling fluid systems, including selection, testing, and monitoring.
• Perform daily drilling performance analysis, identifying deviations and implementing corrective actions to improve efficiency.
• Conduct post-well analysis to capture lessons learned and incorporate into future drilling plans.
• Coordinate with various service providers, including directional drilling, logging, and cementing companies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in drilling engineering , preferably with exposure to onshore and offshore operations.
• Solid understanding of drilling equipment, well control principles, and drilling fluid technology.
• Experience with directional drilling and measurement while drilling (MWD) operations.
• Proficiency in drilling software and simulation tools.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to work effectively under pressure.
