Job summary

Mecad Systems in Pretoria designs and fabricates components for automotive and military applications. This role focuses on drafting, design execution, and creating precise solid models and detailed manufacturing drawings that integrate with electrical interfaces.

You will collaborate with the design team to ensure cable routing feasibility, maintain technical drawing integrity, support prototypes, and contribute to continuous improvements in our CAD workflows and documentation standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in a military vehicle environment is advantageous.
• 2–6 years drafting experience in Automotive field.
• Professional drafting credentials or equivalent certification.
• Other relevant certificates are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Execute design tasks under supervision to meet interfaces.
• Create solid models for components and assemblies.
• Coordinate with designers to ensure cable routing feasibility.
• Prepare detail layouts and manufacturing drawings.
• Ensure technical integrity of drawings.
• Assist during prototype testing and feedback incorporation.
• Manage time and budget targets set by team leader.
• Provide production support and capture red-line drawings.

Job description

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• Design
  • Execution of design tasks within the parameters and interfaces set by the Chief Designer or Senior Design Engineer
  • Prepare Solid Models of components; sub-assemblies and assemblies, using the business file structure guidelines and number protocol
  • Sit with the mechanical/electrical designers to ensure cable routings and integration is possible
• Draughting
  • Prepare detail layout and manufacturing drawings of components and assemblies
  • Responsible for the technical integrity of the design drawings
• Test and Evaluation
  • Assist during the building and testing of prototypes, ensuring that closed loop feedback can take place during the design process
• Project Management
  • Ensure that projects are executed according to the time and budget targets, set by the Design team leader
• Support
  • Communicate with manufacturing, to ensure the flow of technical information during prototyping and production are up to acceptable standards
  • Assist ILS with repair, maintenance and other information required
  • Production support, capturing of red-line drawings during the building and prototype phase
• Technology
  • Keep up to date with new trends in the automotive and military field, by reading technical papers and documents, as supplied

Experience & Qualifications:

• Previous experience in the military vehicle environment would be greatly advantageous.
• 2 – 6 years drafting experience in an Automotive field
• Minimum of professional drafting credentials or equivalent certification
• Other relevant certificates will be advantageous

Software Capability:

• OnShape or Solidworks preferred or relevant CAD package.
• Siemens Teamcentre 11 or relevant PDM system
• Microsoft Office.
