Introduction

The position involves collecting quality, safe blood and blood products according to specific targets set per blood drive (fixed or mobile).

Responsibilities
  1. Blood Collection and Equipment Management
  • Manage cost per unit for whole blood and specialised collections within targets by determining, packing, and loading consumables.
  • Maintain and validate equipment, ensuring timely repairs.
  • Report consumable usage changes and stock discrepancies to the Clinic Supervisor.
  • Stakeholder Relations and Donor Interaction
    • Manage relations at blood drives and donor centres.
    • Greet donors, assist with registration, and guide them through the process.
    • Ensure donors read informational materials before assessment.
    • Assist with completing donor forms and address queries.
    • Report complaints and ensure customer needs are understood and addressed.
    • Coach team on customer service, discussing root causes of feedback.
  • Internal Processes
    • Collect blood units to meet targets.
    • Assist with setting up blood drives and packing vehicles.
    • Complete donor documentation and conduct physical checks as per SOP.
    • Identify and register donors, ensuring forms are complete.
    • Recruit and schedule donors to meet targets.
    • Conduct physical assessments and document findings.
    • Report irregularities immediately.
    • Conduct confidential risk behaviour interviews and educate donors on high-risk behaviours.
    • Prepare blood packs, perform phlebotomy, and care for donors during donation.
    • Handle emergencies with First Aid/CPR as needed.
    • Complete post-donation documentation and provide aftercare and advice.
  • Learning and Growth
    • Perform Clinic Supervisor duties as required.
    • Participate in staff meetings and training needs analysis.
    • Manage staff competency and CPD activities.
  • Governance
    • Maintain staff and equipment files.
    • Ensure policies and procedures are followed, including SHEQ and waste management.
    Qualifications and Experience
    • Diploma / Degree in General Nursing Sciences.
    • Code B or EB Manual driver's license.
    • At least 2 years of Registered Professional Nursing experience.
    Knowledge and Skills
    • Understanding of relevant legislation and company policies.
    • Knowledge of SANBS policies and blood transfusion standards in South Africa.
