Disrepair Lawyer - Job Description

Join Home Group as our Disrepair Lawyer and become part of our in-house Property Litigation and Housing Management Team. This is a permanent full-time role (37.5 hours per week) offering a salary circa £45,000, negotiable based on skills and experience, plus great benefits including a Health Cash Plan.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide legal support on housing management and property litigation matters, defending legal cases and initiating legal actions as necessary.
  2. Deliver a customer-focused in-house legal service, working alongside the Head of Housing and Development Legal and other team members.
  3. Advise on disrepair claims, prepare court proceedings, and manage legal paperwork.
  4. Assist maintenance teams in understanding and responding to disrepair claims.
  5. Manage rental and leasehold properties, ensuring legal compliance, and develop systems to streamline processes.
  6. Oversee work assigned to external firms, ensuring quality and effectiveness.
  7. Prepare applications for court or tribunal, conduct research, collect evidence, and draft statements.
  8. Represent the company in court or arrange for other lawyers to do so.
  9. Assist with other property legal issues, such as antisocial behaviour or possession cases, including preparing court documentation.
Candidate Profile
  • Qualified Legal Executive, solicitor, or barrister with extensive experience in housing law, especially disrepair cases.
  • Proficient in preparing court documents and attending proceedings, with a solid understanding of civil procedure rules and disrepair protocols.
  • Experienced in dispute resolution and negotiating out-of-court settlements.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to oversee and guide a small team.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Due to sponsorship limitations, external candidates require existing eligibility to work in the UK.
