Job summary

SIL is looking for a dedicated Disability Support Worker to assist individuals with disabilities. This full-time role involves mentoring, skill development, personal care, and supporting community engagement. The position requires effective communication and a commitment to fostering independence while providing compassionate care.

Job description

  • Must be comfortable with personal care
  • Must have a Driver's Licence and Full Comprehensive Insurance
  • Willing to travel up to 30 minutes
  • Experience with mental health disorders
  • Experience with epilepsy management

Support Worker responsibilities include:

  • Mentoring and skill development, guiding customers to explore and develop personal interests and hobbies
  • Coaching on independent living skills such as cooking, domestic, and social skills
  • Administering medication and adhering to support plans
  • Completing clear, concise, and factual handover notes and incident reports
  • Providing personal care (toileting, showering, feeding, dressing) as required
  • Supporting community engagement through participation programs and recreational activities
  • Comfort and knowledge in providing personal care
  • Essential epilepsy management skills
  • Community access at certain times
  • Understanding mental health conditions (depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, mood disorders)
  • Knowledge of mental health crisis management
  • Basic computer skills (data entry, record keeping, scanning, printing)

What you will bring to make a difference:

  • Willingness to work various shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, sleepovers, and weekends
  • Effective communication skills, including interacting with verbal and non-verbal customers
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance or willingness to obtain
  • Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003)
  • Formal qualifications in Disability Community Services or similar (advantageous)
  • Compassion, reliability, and punctuality
