Job description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies has opportunities available for Dispensary Support Learners to join the team. The main purpose of this learnership is to employ learners capable of completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course.

This learnership will equip learners with an understanding of the major areas related to the pharmaceutical environment and dispensing, promoting quality on-the-job learning. Candidates will be employed in a Fixed Term position as Dispensary Support until they are registered with the SAPC as learner basic assistants. Upon qualification as a basic pharmacist assistant, permanent employment will be offered.

Responsibilities:

  • The sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Assist with the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and SOPs.
  • Assist with unpacking, merchandising of stock, and cleaning of dispensary and OTC shelves.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dispensary Manager.
  • Learn to interpret scripts accurately, acting professionally and within legal requirements as per the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, understanding common dosages and drug interactions.
  • Ensure medications are checked for accuracy and signed off by a pharmacist.
  • Assist in stock control, including managing cleanliness, organization, and expiry dates of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
  • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking and appointments.
  • Assist with call center scripts and patient service calls.
  • Provide health information to individuals to promote health.
  • Assist with scheme authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications.
  • Report stock levels and errors to the dispensary manager.
  • Receive dispensary stock following SOPs.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics and either Physical Science or Life Science.
  • Minimum average of 50% obtained.

  • Proficiency in English and a second language – reading, writing, speaking.
  • Time management, ability to meet deadlines, handle pressure, attention to detail.
