This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the capabilities we can provide and demonstrate are continuously enhanced and offer a unique or differentiating impact in the market.

Crucially, the importance of reporting and trend analysis is key to ensuring the internal customers and leadership have full visibility of the healthcare segment, that the tools and systems utilised are accurately reflecting the reality of the business, and that investment options are supported by detailed project and action plans. As the business adapts and changes over the next 2 years, this role is pivotal in managing the transformation.

The role will help identify opportunities to manage the risk aspects between generics and originator companies such that each business is best suited to adopt and drive partnerships along a generic portfolio, while delivering agreed margins for the business. The person will evaluate the "make-up" of each business and look for new channels or categories to expand into that helps to diversify each business as well as our Healthcare business overall, including new principals in animal health, surgical equipment, medical devices, consumer health and medical consumables. Additionally, this role is also seen as a central contact point within healthcare to oversee commercial opportunities that are highlighted from regional or Commercial Ops teams.

The role interfaces with senior executives within DP World Logistics pillar to provide feedback on the Healthcare pipeline and provide guidance on the appropriate principals to engage. Lastly, the success of this role is very dependent on a strong line of communication; with internal stakeholders for alignment, but also importantly, with the business MD's and commercial teams, to ensure there is a combined and common effort and execution on strategies is well managed and performed.

Key Performance Areas

  1. Projects
    • Generics Strategy: Ensure the Healthcare business is fit for purpose in supporting the SSA healthcare sector.
    • Manage the adoption of a high-quality generic portfolio, including its overall composition and plan a 3–5-year launch process.
    • Pharmacy Engagement: Develop and execute a strong value proposition for pharmacy across SSA that places MA Healthcare as the preferred partner in this segment.
    • Utilise key levers such as education, loyalty, commercial partnerships and incentives to build long lasting relationships.
    • Support this through advocacy and advisory board meetings that elevates key individuals and allows for joint business process planning.
    • Ad-hoc projects: Manage the evaluation of ad-hoc projects or requests and how they align with the overall healthcare strategy.
  2. Business Transformation
    • Lead and guide the transformation agenda of the Healthcare business on 3 key aspects:
    • The move to a stronger generic contribution by business which de-risks reliance on originator principals, but also prepares the business to meet the growing demand for generics.
    • Category expansion of each business into newer areas such as animal health, surgical & devices – which further de-risks each business and allows for a competitive advantage.
    • Evolving the promotional model of the business that includes digital aspects (knowledge Lab and digital promotion tools) but also strengthening our partnership with the pharmacy channel through engagement platforms and loyalty programmes, driving a unique advantage through partnerships and co-operation.
  3. Data & Information
    • Responsible for managing and improving the data metrics of the Healthcare business as reported in MDS and Power BI, such that reports and internal trending are accurate and reflect the position of the Healthcare business.
  4. Category Expansion
    • Work in conjunction with each business MD to understand the current make-up of their business (Pharmaceutical, consumer, surgical, animal etc.) and look for opportunities to de-risk / accelerate each business through market research on new categories, developing trends in new segments and alignment between businesses for joined up commercial activity.

Qualifications Required

A tertiary qualification in Life Sciences, Sales, Marketing or Business.

Experience and Skills Required

  1. 10+ years in pharmaceutical or related healthcare organisations, with proven track record in healthcare in Sub-Saharan Africa, who has been or has the potential to be a General Manager in this type of business.
  2. Has worked with multiple data sources to build strong business plans across multiple markets.
  3. Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  4. Exceptional presentation and communication skills.
  5. Excellent planning, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to engage, collaborate and influence at all organizational and management levels.
  7. Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task.
  8. Commercial thinking.
