Job description

Job title: Director of Finance - Belmond Safaris

Job Location: Western Cape, Cape Town

Deadline: April 26, 2025

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for overseeing the monitoring, controlling and recording all sales, purchases, salaries and expenses of the business.
  • Overseeing the preparation of all monthly financial reporting of the business.
  • Oversee the financial management and the monthly and annual reporting of the business performance.
  • Assist the General Manager in establishing local policies, rules, internal controls and safeguards that ensure profitability and control of operations.
  • Oversee the Treasurer function with regard to cash planning, and review the cash position on a weekly basis to optimize the use of funds and minimize the volume of cash being held in the business.
  • Maintain close liaison with the external and internal auditors and ensure effective action as necessary on all their agreed upon recommendations. Work along with/assist Financial Controllers in developing effective responses to all recommendations made by Internal and External Auditors; as well as direct action and available human resources, when needed, to implement corrective measures.
  • Responsible for monitoring all budgets and reporting major deviations of over-expenditure, under-budgeting or non-compliance to the approved budget of the business.
  • Ensure that all taxes are paid and that all related reports are filed on a timely basis.
  • Review all changes of tax laws and accounting policies, assess their implications on the business and ensure the finance team implements appropriate changes. Responsible for the recruitment, training, development, discipline and evaluation of the finance team.

What You Bring:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a Financial Controller, preferably within an international chain environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of all jobs in Accounting, Purchasing and Food and Beverage control.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting, etc.).
  • Thorough understanding of data analysis and forecasting.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel).
