Location:

The candidate will work from Triz Engineering Solutions in Durbanville, Western Cape, South Africa, with the possibility to relocate to Autocar in Birmingham, Alabama, or Hagerstown, Indiana, USA after one year.

Reports to: Chief Engineer (Triz / Autocar and customer engineering/project managers)

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a four-year college or university.
  • Master's degree in Engineering Management preferred.
  • 15 years of engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of proven leadership and mentorship experience.
  • Willingness to relocate to the USA.
  • Willingness to travel overseas.
  • South African citizenship.

Job Description:

The Director of Engineering will oversee the development and management of the engineering team, focusing on people, organization, and processes. Responsibilities include process improvements, developing reporting managers, and mentoring team members.

This role requires interaction with all levels of company management, including operations, purchasing, quality control, sales, marketing, and finance. Collaboration with key suppliers and customers is essential.

The Engineering Director reports to the Vice President of Engineering at Autocar.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor the engineering organization, providing technical leadership.
  • Incorporate company strategy, industry developments, regulatory requirements, customer feedback, and supplier relationships into product development.
  • Develop robust product concepts, ensuring manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Train and mentor engineering staff to improve current roles and prepare for future roles.
  • Analyze and resolve technical problems, providing assistance as needed.
  • Work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment to meet project timelines and quality standards.
