Digital Marketing & Community Manager – Sports Betting Start-up

Job Overview

Join a dynamic UK-based start-up that’s reshaping the sports betting landscape in South Africa. As our first marketing hire, you’ll play a pivotal role in launching and growing a new AI-powered fan engagement and odds comparison platform. Your mission: to build traction, develop an engaged community, and drive 5,000+ early users within the first three months—entirely through creative, organic marketing strategies.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape brand identity and user engagement from the ground up. You’ll work closely with the founding team and have full ownership over campaign planning, content creation, influencer activation, and social media strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a grassroots digital marketing strategy tailored to South African sports fans.
  • Create high-impact content for TikTok, Instagram, and other relevant platforms to drive user acquisition and engagement.
  • Plan and manage organic campaigns, competitions, and promotions (e.g., giveaways, sports merch drops).
  • Establish and grow online communities across social channels.
  • Coordinate soft-launch and teaser campaigns leading up to app release (target: August).
  • Collaborate with the founding team to define brand tone, identity, and visual storytelling.
  • Monitor campaign performance, adapt strategies, and report on KPIs—especially user acquisition.
  • Source and manage local partnerships for merchandise or micro-sponsorship opportunities.
Qualifications and Experience
  • 2+ years of digital marketing experience with a strong focus on social media and community building.
  • Proven track record running successful organic campaigns (especially on TikTok and Instagram).
  • Deep understanding of the South African youth/sports culture (especially betting, football, and rugby fans).
  • Excellent content creation and short-form video editing skills (e.g., CapCut, Canva).
  • Strategic thinker with a scrappy, hands-on attitude and start-up mindset.
  • Strong English communication skills; comfort working independently with UK-based stakeholders.
  • Must have own laptop, smartphone with high-quality camera, and reliable high-speed internet access.

Salary between R30000 and R40000 monthly depending on experience
