Diesel Technician

Location: Cape Town

Position Overview:

To perform high-quality mechanical repairs, maintenance, and breakdown services on diesel vehicles and equipment, ensuring compliance with company standards, safety regulations, and customer expectations. The role supports workshop operations by accurately documenting work performed, mentoring apprentices, and contributing to a productive and professional work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support the Workshop Foreman in a constructive manner, ensuring proper maintenance of internal department relationships.
  2. Demonstrate exemplary task performance.
  3. Manage work efficiently and effectively.
  4. Accurately record all hours worked and sold.
  5. Record the use of lubricants and parts on the job card.
  6. Follow systems and processes as instructed by management, ensuring understanding and adherence.
  7. Record the use of consumable items.
  8. Build sound relationships with parts staff.
  9. Ensure all tasks meet the minimum standards required by the company.
  10. Participate in relevant training programs and share knowledge with others.
  11. Engage in personal learning and self-development.
  12. Be courteous to customers and staff during breakdown attendances.
  13. Wear proper PPE and maintain a clean, presentable vehicle.
  14. Understand job requirements to attend breakdowns effectively.
  15. Obey traffic rules; fines will be the responsibility of the driver.
  16. Maintain good relationships with colleagues, including apprentices, and support skills transfer and productivity.
  17. Set an example in punctuality.
  18. Ensure warranty claims are correctly diagnosed using the 3 C's: Complaint, Cause, and Correction.
  19. Take ownership of apprentices and ensure proper skills transfer.
  20. Complete all apprenticeship documentation diligently.
  21. Adhere strictly to Health and Safety rules and company policies regarding tools and assets.
  22. Manage work hours and overtime in compliance with the Labour Relations Act.
Requirements:
  • Matric
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a similar role
