Job description

Job Purpose:

The primary purpose of a diesel mechanic is to maintain, repair and service diesel powered vehicles and machinery to ensure optimal performance and functionality. This position will be based in Strand.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic
  • Candidate must reside in the Helderberg areas. (Strand, Somerset West, Stellenbosch)
  • Grade 11/ 12
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel)
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Own reliable transport
  • Toyota Experience
  • Advantage knowledge of diesel engine components.
  • Good attention to detail
  • Maintaining detailed records of services vehicles.
  • Maintaining parts inventory
  • Good Organization skills
  • No criminal record
  • Excellent communication skills (English & Afrikaans)
  • Good physical condition
  • Good health (no chronic conditions that will influence daily tasks

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspection and Diagnosis:Diesel mechanics inspect vehicles and machinery to identify potential mechanical problems, including engine malfunctions, transmission issues, and problems with steering or braking systems.
  • Repair and Maintenance: They perform repairs and maintenance, which can range from routine tasks like oil changes and tire rotations to more complex repairs like engine overhauls or component replacements.
  • Diagnostic Testing: They use diagnostic tools to identify and analyze mechanical problems, interpreting test results to pinpoint the cause of issues.
  • Record Keeping: Diesel mechanics maintain records of repairs, maintenance performed, and potential future issues to help ensure the longevity and reliability of the equipment.
  • Communication: They communicate with vehicle owners about the repairs made, explain how they can best maintain their vehicle, and address any questions or concerns.
  • Coordination and Management: In some cases, diesel mechanics may be responsible for ordering parts, managing inventory, and coordinating with other mechanics or technicians.
