Accountabilities & Responsibility Areas:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond promptly to roadside breakdown calls and provide on-site mechanical assistance.
  • Manage time effectively and work independently under pressure.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Inspect and Diagnose:
  • Inspect diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and other systems on trucks and trailers.
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify problems.
  • Interpret test results to find root causes.
Repair and Maintenance:
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes and fluid checks.
  • Repair or replace damaged components.
  • Overhaul or rebuild engines and major components as needed.
Testing and Troubleshooting:
  • Test-drive vehicles to ensure performance.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Follow checklists during inspections.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Keep accurate repair and maintenance records.
  • Prepare inspection reports and repair plans.
Interactions:
  • Consult with drivers and explain repairs.
  • Collaborate with dispatch team to prioritize calls.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of diesel mechanic training or apprenticeship.
  • Experience in diesel engine repair.
  • Red Seal Diesel mechanic certificate.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to interpret manuals and schematics.
  • Manual dexterity and physical ability.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code B or C) with a clean record.
