Job summary

Kempston Recruitment is seeking a qualified Diesel Mechanic to service and repair a fleet of vehicles in George. The role requires hands-on diagnostics, engine work, and preventative maintenance, with standby duties as needed. You will work within a team to uphold high standards of workmanship and ensure fleet readiness.

The ideal candidate has trade-tested diesel experience, knowledge of common truck brands, and strong diagnostic skills. A Code 14 license would be advantageous.

Qualifications

• Matric or N3 qualification (essential).
• Trade Tested Diesel Mechanic required.

Responsibilities

• Perform servicing, maintenance, and repairs on fleet vehicles.
• Diagnostics on mechanical and electrical systems.
• Attend breakdowns and standby after hours.
• Complete job cards, service records, and breakdown reports.
• Assist with workshop management and daily operations.
• Lead and support mechanics within the team.
• Maintain workmanship and quality control.
• Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and operational at all times.
• Support fleet maintenance to prevent issues.

Job description

Key Skills and Requirements:

• Matric or N3 qualification


• Trade Tested Diesel Mechanic


• Experience working on both petrol and diesel vehicles and commercial vehicles


• Proven experience with engine overhauls and major mechanical repairs


• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills


• Working knowledge of Fuso, Mercedes-Benz, and Isuzu vehicles


• Valid driver's license essential (Code 14 advantageous)


• Knowledge of COF inspections, vehicle servicing, clutches, gearboxes, and preventative fleet maintenance


• Auto electrical knowledge will be advantageous


• Strong verbal and written communication skills


• Applicants must be willing to work standby/ be available as required

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate would be required, but not limited to:

• Perform servicing, maintenance, and repairs on fleet vehicles


• Conduct fault-finding and diagnostics on mechanical and electrical systems

• Complete job cards, service records, and breakdown reports

• Support the smooth running of the fleet through preventative maintenance practices
