Job summary

Omnia is hiring a Diesel Mechanic on a permanent basis for a site in Dryden, Mpumalanga, South Africa. The role involves diagnosing faults in diesel vehicles and repairing engine, steering, transmission, braking and lighting systems. You will maintain records, ensure SHERQ compliance, and keep parts inventory up to date.

The ideal candidate has Grade 12, a Code 10 licence, and a Red Seal Diesel Mechanic certification, with several years of relevant experience in mining or explosives environments.

Why This Role Matters (Purpose)

The primary duties of a Diesel Mechanic include performing diagnostic tests on diesel vehicles to find faults, analyzing diagnostic test results and repairing or replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking or lighting system components.

Productivity output

• Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles
• Ensure correct measurement of products are used to avoid production waste

Inventory handling

• Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist
• Maintaining a parts inventory

Mechanical ability

• Running diagnostic tests on vehicles.
• Analyzing diagnostic test results.
• Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems.
• Checking vehicle lighting systems
• Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks

Adherence to sound SHERQ principles

• Wear the correct PPE
• Adhere to good housekeeping principles
• Ensure all SHERQ requirements are met

What You Will Bring

Qualifications

• Grade 12
• Code 10 Driver's licence
• Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal)

Experience

• 3 year's demonstrated experience as a Diesel Mechanic (Truck and LDV).
• 3 years demonstrated knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Proven working experience in an Explosives environment.
