Job summary

Job description

Skills

  • Generator knowledge: Be familiar with the working principle, maintenance requirements, and fault diagnosis of diesel generator sets, oil circuit systems, and ATS equipment. Understand the schematic diagram of the electrical main circuit and secondary control circuit, as well as the control logic and working principle of the fuel supply system.
  • Equipment maintenance: Perform daily inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel generator sets, oil circuit systems, and ATS equipment. Master technical support capabilities for medium and major repairs and monitor fuel and equipment status.
  • Daily operation and maintenance: Independently formulate equipment maintenance SOPs, develop detailed operation and maintenance (O&M) plans, and track their implementation. Be familiar with spare parts and consumables lists and manage procurement requirements efficiently.
  • Tool use: Proficient in using tools and materials related to mechanical and electrical operations.
  • Fault diagnosis: Possess strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and repair equipment failures efficiently.

Experience

  • Relevant experience: Minimum of 6 years in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of diesel generator sets.
  • Data Center Experience: Preference for candidates with operation and maintenance experience in data centers or large industrial facilities, especially with Mitsubishi and Perkins generators.

Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma / National Diploma / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • N3-N6 / Equivalent in Mechanical Engineering / Diesel Generators.
  • Professional Engineering Technician / Equivalent recognized by the Engineering Council of South Africa.
  • Valid Trade Test certification from the Engineering Council of South Africa.

Duties

  • Monitor all DG units/systems, schedule preventative maintenance, and oversee mechanical operations and repairs.
  • Install and inspect DG systems to ensure operational efficiency and maintain electrical and electronic (PLC) control systems.
  • Ensure safety compliance, document activities, maintain records, and monitor inventory.
  • Perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and system analysis to improve business performance and customer service.
  • Maintain safety standards, manage equipment and supplies, and ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Interpret blueprints, evaluate code compliance, and perform repairs on electrical components.
  • Locate and repair defects, ensure timely ordering of parts, and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
