DevOps Engineer Lead (Senior)

Santam IT is seeking a DevOps Engineer Lead to join the IT Support team.

Job Description

The incumbent will be part of the IT4IT Team (the IT Support Team) and collaborate with all development teams (Guidewire, JDE, Microsoft, Java, etc.). This role involves working specifically with Technical Architecture and Release & Deployment Management to support and maintain the IT Support technical infrastructure, DevSecOps processes & procedures. The primary focus will be supporting development teams, implementing alerting & monitoring solutions, and supporting infrastructure and application components.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide guidance to Architects and Technical Specialists on automating and improving development, release management, and production observation processes. Sign off on solutions developed.
2. Manage and optimize infrastructure deployment, technical support processes, support procedures, deployments & releases, servers, nodes, and databases.
3. Drive adherence to standards by software developers and testers to ensure compliance with established processes.
4. Coordinate relevant training & certification aligned with role requirements.
5. Identify opportunities to improve hardware and software resource performance (CPU, Memory, Disk I/O) across all environments and take action to mitigate potential impacts.
6. Lead team management and leadership activities.

Qualifications

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience

• National Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, or related fields preferred.

Knowledge and Experience

• Minimum of 10 years relevant IT experience.
• At least 5 years in a Lead role managing complex hardware and software environments and teams.
• Over 5 years’ senior-level software development experience in Java.
• Solid experience with Docker, Atlassian Suite, Bamboo.
• Experience in application development, support, and release management.
• Experience with messaging middleware, web services, SOAP, REST, SOA, ESB, SMTP, FTP, secure FTP.
• Minimum of 5 years working with and supporting complex cloud-deployed systems, e.g., AWS.
