Job summary

Communicate Recruitment seeks a seasoned Cloud DevOps Engineer to build, optimize, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure for a rapidly growing SaaS platform in Johannesburg. Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage scalable, highly available cloud infrastructure.
• Optimize cloud environments for reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Manage AWS services including ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, Lambda, and related services.
• Build, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
• Automate deployment processes and operational tasks to increase efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
• Manage containerized applications using Docker.
• Support orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
• Ensure consistency across development, testing, and production environments.
• Apply cloud security best practices and infrastructure hardening techniques.
• Assist in implementing firewalls, access controls, and intrusion detection solutions.
• Design and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Work closely with development teams to troubleshoot production issues and improve release processes.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation for infrastructure, systems, and procedures.

What You'll Do

• Design, implement, and manage scalable, highly available cloud infrastructure.
• Optimize cloud environments for reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.

• Build, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms.

Containerisation & Orchestration

• Manage containerized applications using Docker.
• Support orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.

Monitoring & Reliability

• Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions.
• Create dashboards and define key operational metrics.
• Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and reliability risks.

Security & Governance

• Apply cloud security best practices and infrastructure hardening techniques.
• Assist in implementing firewalls, access controls, and intrusion detection solutions.
• Ensure infrastructure complies with security and operational standards.

Database & Disaster Recovery

• Support PostgreSQL database environments and contribute to NoSQL initiatives where appropriate.
• Design and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Ensure critical systems are protected and recoverable.
• Work closely with development teams to troubleshoot production issues and improve release processes.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation for infrastructure, systems, and procedures.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field preferred.
• AWS certifications advantageous.

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with AWS cloud services.
• Solid knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
• Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
• Familiarity with monitoring platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch.
• Experience administering PostgreSQL databases.
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub.
• Experience integrating APIs, systems, and workflows to support automation and operational efficiency.
