Job description

An established engineering consultancy in Cape Town is seeking two experienced Civil Design Technicians to support project engineers with technical drawings, designs, and cost estimates for various civil engineering projects. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to civil services design across residential, commercial, and industrial developments.

Responsibilities:

1. Create detailed engineering drawings and models (bulk earthworks, sewer, stormwater, and water) using Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
2. Collaborate with engineers and project teams to understand requirements and produce accurate technical documentation.
3. Review design documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry and municipal standards.
4. Coordinate services across disciplines within each project scope.
5. Modify and update existing CAD drawings throughout the project lifecycle.
6. Maintain organized CAD libraries and documentation for efficient workflow.
7. Assist with preparing project documentation, including tenders, bills of quantities, specifications, and civil services reports.
8. Conduct site visits and support quality control processes.

Skills & Experience:

• Solid understanding of project stages from inception to closeout.
• Experience with a variety of projects (commercial, residential, industrial), especially those involving municipal councils.
• Familiarity with engineering drawing standards, construction documentation, and relevant building codes.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle required for site visits and meetings.
• Certifications in Civil 3D and AutoCAD are advantageous.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and SABS 1200 (for bills of quantities) is preferred.
• National Diploma or BTech in Civil Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and AutoCAD, with a focus on drafting speed and accuracy.
• Only South African residents or individuals with a relevant South African work permit will be considered.
