Job summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join a growing renewable energy team delivering innovative energy generation solutions across South Africa. This role covers concept through implementation while contributing to sustainable energy systems.

You will combine strong technical expertise with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement, collaborating with clients, suppliers and colleagues to ensure quality, budget and programme objectives are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level engineering degree in electrical or mechanical field.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in engineering with renewable energy exposure.
• Knowledge of solar PV, battery energy storage, hydro or similar renewable energy systems.
• Proficiency with design software/tools is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Conduct due diligence investigations into client facilities.
• Analyze electrical consumption data and develop demand and consumption profiles.
• Design conceptual and detailed renewable energy generation solutions.
• Prepare budget estimates and concept reports.
• Produce baseline reports, tender drawings and SLDs.
• Develop construction drawings and detailed design documentation.
• Review equipment selections, supplier submittals and shop drawings.
• Research emerging renewable energy technologies and evaluate their suitability for future projects.
• Identify new market opportunities and support business development initiatives.
• Lead or contribute to projects while ensuring quality, budget and programme objectives are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct due diligence investigations into client facilities.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 3 years experience within the engineering industry with exposure to renewable energy or electrical engineering projects.
• Knowledge of technologies such as solar PV, battery energy storage, hydro or similar renewable energy systems.
• Proficiency in software such as Helioscope, Homer and Revit will be advantageous.
• Strong analytical, communication and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with clients, suppliers and colleagues.
• Detail-oriented with a proactive and solution-driven mindset.
• Willingness to travel as required.
