Job description

Position Overview

As the Design Engineer at Fermel, you will play a pivotal role in driving the development of cutting-edge mining equipment.

Key Areas of Responsibilities
  1. Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and leadership to a team of design engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  2. Product Development: Lead the design and development of new mining equipment and enhancements to existing products, ensuring alignment with customer needs, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  3. Design Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize product designs for performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
  4. Project Management: Manage design projects from inception to completion, including resource allocation, scheduling, budgeting, and milestone tracking.
  5. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing, procurement, quality assurance, and sales teams to ensure seamless product development and successful product launches.
  6. Prototype Testing: Oversee the testing and validation of prototypes to ensure they meet design specifications and performance expectations.
  7. Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and test reports.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (5 to 10 years) in a similar role within the mining or heavy equipment industry.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and familiarity with PLM systems.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical design principles, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and motivate a team of engineers.
  • Excellent project management skills with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.
