Job description

A vacancy exists for a Deputy Hospital Manager, based at Life Eugene Marais Hospital, reporting to the Hospital Manager. This role is part of the hospital's sustainability strategy, focusing on development, decision-making involvement, profit responsibility, and talent retention. The successful candidate will meet internal and external customer needs by executing strategic and operational objectives related to growth, quality, and people, leading and managing all complementary business units.

Critical Outputs

The incumbent will have profit accountability and operational responsibility for hospital units, working directly under the Hospital Manager, by:

  • Quality Systems Management: Implementing quality metrics, ensuring compliance with clinical benchmarking, and addressing problems through root cause analysis.
  • Hospital Operations Management: Developing best practices and strategic plans to optimize operations.
  • People Management: Leading initiatives, managing feedback meetings, developing staffing and training plans, managing performance, and maintaining positive IR relationships.
  • Doctor Relationship Management: Developing retention and attraction strategies.
  • Marketing Strategy Implementation: Understanding competitors and positioning hospital projects in communities.
  • Financial Targets Achievement: Budgeting, managing Capex, developing business opportunities, maximizing revenue, and controlling costs.
  • Governance and Risk Management: Conducting risk assessments and ensuring ethical practices.
Requirements
  • Post-graduate degree in relevant fields or business.
  • Completion of Life Healthcare Hospital Manager Development Program preferred.
  • Leadership and management experience in healthcare, including financial management.
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry and legislation.
  • Computer skills, driver’s license, and willingness to travel.
