Job description

Grayston Preparatory School is an independent, co-educational preparatory school with a values-based ethos situated in Sandown, Sandton.

Position Overview

The current Deputy Head of the Foundation Phase will retire at the end of the year.

Grayston is now actively seeking a successor to start in January.

The Deputy Head: Foundation Phase

This is a Senior Management position and part of the School Executive Committee. The person will be responsible for the running of the Pre-Prep and Junior Prep departments, Grades to Three.

The role requires the candidate to teach within the Foundation Phase and oversee its academic offerings and pastoral care program. The Deputy Head should understand the school's ethos and promote, drive, and align the academic and pastoral programs with the school's strategic vision.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years' leadership experience, preferably as a Deputy Head.
  • Ability to lead by example, manage, and mentor teachers.
  • Aptitude to teach within the Foundation Phase.
  • Understanding of assessment, teaching methodology, and practices in the Foundation Phase.
  • Recognized teaching qualification and current SACE registration.
  • Excellent communication skills, managerial, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to personal development and innovative teaching approaches.
  • Sound understanding of the CAPS curriculum and current educational trends.
  • High computer literacy (Google Apps, MS Office, iPad apps, SMART Board).
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and willing to participate in school life.
  • Ability to manage departmental budget and resources.
  • Stakeholder engagement skills, including with IEB and external bodies.
  • Experience in a similar role for 5 years is advantageous.
