Job description

Grayston Preparatory School is an independent, co-educational preparatory school with a values-based ethos situated in Sandown, Sandton.

Position Overview

The current Deputy Head of the Foundation Phase will retire at the end of the year.

Grayston is now actively seeking a successor to start in January.

The Deputy Head: Foundation Phase

This is a Senior Management post and part of the School Executive Committee. The person will be responsible for the running of the Pre-Prep and Junior Prep departments, Grades to Three.

The role requires the candidate to teach within the Foundation Phase and oversee the academic and pastoral care programs. The Deputy Head should understand and promote the School's ethos, aligning academic and pastoral initiatives with the school's strategic vision.

Candidate Requirements
  1. Minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership role, preferably as a Deputy Head.
  2. Ability to lead by example, manage, and mentor teachers.
  3. Willingness and ability to teach within the Foundation Phase.
  4. Understanding of current assessment, teaching methodology, and practices in the Foundation Phase.
  5. Recognized teaching qualification and current SACE registration.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Strong managerial, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  8. Commitment to personal development and innovative teaching.
  9. Sound understanding of the CAPS curriculum and willingness to stay updated with educational trends.
  10. High computer literacy (Google Apps, MS Office, iPad applications, SMART Board).
  11. Self-motivated, energetic, and participative in school life.
  12. Ability to manage departmental budgets and resources.
  13. Ability to engage with stakeholders, including IEB and external bodies.
  14. Experience in a similar role is advantageous.
