Job Location: Bonner Springs, KS

Salary Range: $0.60 - $0.60 Salary / year

Description

General Definition of Work: Under general direction, provides leadership and oversight in planning, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating, and managing emergency medical care operations. Ensures compliance with statutes and rules, coordinates with other departments and agencies, and performs related work as assigned.

Supports the Fire Chief in managing the Fire Department's activities, training, and operations including EMS, fire suppression, prevention, hazardous materials response, and disaster preparedness.

Essential Functions
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and motivation to Fire and EMS personnel.
  • Oversees delivery of ALS emergency medical services and manages related department activities.
  • Performs duties as HIPAA Compliance Officer, Privacy Act Officer, and Infection Control Program Administrator.
  • Manages ambulance billing, certifications, and records.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records related to Fire activities.
  • Ensures medical equipment and supplies are in proper condition and inventory.
  • Provides EMS training and direction to personnel.
  • Supports the Fire Chief with administrative tasks, studies, and policy recommendations.
  • Handles public inquiries and resolves issues.
  • Establishes service levels, monitors efficiency, and allocates resources.
  • Plans and presents EMS educational programs and oversees training records.
  • Assigns projects, evaluates work methods, and reviews procedures.
  • Recruits, trains, evaluates, and develops staff; manages discipline and performance.
  • Responds to emergencies, may assume command at scenes.
  • Participates in budget development, monitors expenditures, and manages procurement.
  • Coordinates with other agencies and participates in regional emergency planning.
  • Assists in disaster preparedness and fire prevention programs.
  • Acts as Fire Chief in their absence.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of fire ground tactics, incident management, hazard mitigation, fire science, emergency medical response, and program administration. Ability to exercise sound judgment, supervise personnel, and establish effective relationships.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Fire Administration, Emergency Healthcare, Fire Science, Public Administration, or related field; Master's preferred. At least 8 years as a Fire Officer, with 5 in a supervisory role, or equivalent experience. Completion of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program and CFO credentialing are highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

Requires exertion up to 10-25 pounds frequently, over 25 pounds occasionally. Involves speaking, hearing, manual dexterity, reaching, and other physical activities. Vision and sensory requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision, as well as night vision. Work involves outdoor conditions, exposure to hazards, and the use of protective equipment.

  • CPR / First Aid Certification
  • Kansas Paramedic Certification
  • Fire Investigator, Incident Safety Officer, and various NWCG certifications
  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License
