Job summary

DWYPD in Pretoria seeks an experienced Senior Internal Auditor to lead internal audit projects, assess controls and report findings to senior management. The role requires extensive knowledge of internal audit standards, public sector frameworks, and governance requirements.

The successful candidate will develop risk-based audit plans, supervise audit staff, and coordinate with the Audit and Risk Committee, ensuring timely delivery of quality assurance and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 certificate is required.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Internal Audit/Accounting/Financial Auditing at NQF level 7.
• Registration as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certification in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA) or Certified Government Audit Professional (GAP).
• 6 years of internal audit experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory (Assistant Director) role.
• Membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
• Knowledge of global Internal Audit Standards; PFMA and Treasury Regulations; Public Service Regulations; Public Sector Frameworks; GRAP; IFRS.
• Strong skills in communication, conflict management, project management, leadership, coordination, risk assessment, negotiation, presentation, planning and organizing, report writing, and analytics.

Responsibilities

• Manage internal audit projects and evaluate controls and objectives across the department.
• Communicate audit results to the Accounting Officer and Audit and Risk Committee; prepare reports and progress updates.
• Ensure compliance with policy frameworks and develop internal audit methodologies and procedures.
• Provide guidance on internal audit requirements and implement Quality Assurance Improvement Program.
• Develop strategic internal audit plans and annual operational plan; coordinate with external assurance providers.
• Keep up to date with developments in the internal audit environment and engage in CPD activities.
• Provide secretariat support to Audit and Risk Committee and prepare meeting minutes.
