Receiving Clerk : George
Our client in the Galvanizing industry is looking for a hands‑on, dynamic candidate to join them at their depot. The ideal candidate must be technically minded whilst maintaining strong administration skills.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Receiving & Verification of Incoming Steel
- Receive raw steel items arriving from clients and transporters.
- Check delivery notes, job cards, and client instructions against physical items.
- Verify quantities, lengths, weights, batch numbers, and steel types.
- Inspect incoming items for rust, damage, incorrect fabrication, or contamination that may affect galvanizing.
- Flag discrepancies immediately and communicate with clients or production supervisors.
Documentation & Record-Keeping
- Capture all incoming materials on the system (manual or digital).
- Generate and update job cards for each client order.
- Ensure all items are correctly labelled and tracked before entering the galvanizing queue.
- Maintain accurate paperwork for traceability through the entire galvanizing process.
Pre-Galvanizing Preparation Checks
- Confirm that items meet galvanizing requirements (drainage holes, venting, prep work).
- Identify items requiring additional preparation (e.g., cleaning, drilling, fettling) and elevate accordingly.
- Work with the quality team to ensure readiness before the dip process.
Material Handling & Yard Coordination
- Ensure safe offloading of steel from trucks using cranes, forklifts, or hoists.
- Tag, sort, and store materials in designated holding areas.
- Maintain proper layout so the production team can easily retrieve items for processing.
- Ensure no cross‑mixing or misplacement of client steel.
Communication & Customer Interaction
- Liaise with clients, drivers, and the internal production team regarding incoming goods.
- Notify clients of shortages, over‑deliveries, prep problems, or non‑compliant items.
- Maintain professional and clear communication to avoid delays in the galvanizing cycle.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all site safety procedures when handling steel.
- Ensure weights, stacks, and load placements comply with safe lifting guidelines.
- Keep receiving areas clean, organised, and hazard‑free.
- Report any safety risks or equipment faults immediately.
Support to Production Workflow
- Work closely with planning to confirm job readiness and sequence.
- Assist with updating daily receiving registers and production schedules.
- Support stock movement and internal transfers when needed.
POSITION INFO : Qualifications
- Matric or technical matric (technical drawing)
- Fluent in English / Afrikaans
- Computer literate
- 3 years in a similar role
- Valid drivers licence and own vehicle
