Job description

The General Manager is responsible for the management and performance of the Warehouse Operations, Inventory, Transport Operations, and Customer Service in their region. The General Manager is responsible for ensuring driver health and safety and creating a conscious food culture. Building and monitoring operational capacity and processes to ensure the sustainability of the Distribution Centres operations at the right cost and to the right quality standards.

Key Functional Responsibilities:

  1. Warehouse, Inventory & Transport Management:
  • Ensure all quality audits are passed.
  • Ensure all operations comply with Company policy and procedure.
  • Improves operational KPIs year on year.
  • The General Manager ensures that DC facilities and equipment are maintained and in good working order.
  • The General Manager is responsible for overseeing Inventory Management.
  • The General Manager is responsible for reviewing Replenishment put away and Inventory control operations.
  • Customer Service:
    • The General Manager is responsible for achieving customer contracted service levels.
    • The General Manager ensures that no restaurant falls below the minimum service level over a 12-month period.
    • The General Manager ensures that customer complaints are resolved quickly.
    • The General Manager is responsible for building and maintaining sound relationships with the market.
    • The General Manager is responsible for developing human capital, processes and procedures, and ensuring they are continuously actively pursued in the areas of process, quality, service level and cost improvements.
  • Reporting:
    • The General Manager presents and explains the performance of the DC.
  • Costs and Budgeting:
    • Achieve the budgeted cost per case per DC.
    • The General Manager delivers budgets per DC that meet specified mandate.
    • Ensures DC master schedules are optimal, accommodate growth and meet the customers' needs.
    • Ensure DC contingency plans are always up to date.
    • Address and mitigate operational risks in a timely manner.
    • Ensure that all KPIs are met, and risk is mitigated.
  • Food Safety:
    • To be an active role player and promote a food safety culture.
    • To carry sound knowledge of the FSSC 22000 standards.
    • Lead the food safety Team and update them on all relevant changes and or improvements.
    • Be accountable for all internal and external audits, and ensure smooth running of the audit procedure.
    • To create awareness and ensure staff are conscious about food safety and quality protocols in the distribution centre.
    • To ensure general awareness of the facility's general health and safety representatives in case of an emergency.
  • People:
    • DC Managers' performance is reviewed at least 4 times a year.
    • The succession plan for DC managers is always up to date.
    • Ensure continuous training and development according to training requirements are met and up to date.
    • Continuously coaches and mentors staff.
    • Hosts monthly staff meetings with minutes.
    • Ensures that all staff maintains DQSP certification.
    • Ensures a succession plan in place for career levels.
    • Liaising with the HR department to understand all the necessary aspects and needs of HR development, and ensure all staff is fully informed of HR objectives, purposes, and achievements.
    • Manages a stable HR climate in the workplace.
    • Liaises with HR regarding overtime and absenteeism, motivating staff, recruiting staff, training, mentoring, coaching, and development of staff according to company policies and procedures.
    • Conduct regular performance appraisals with subordinates and ensure that the process is cascaded throughout the warehousing team.
    • Develop and manage high-performance multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems within the distribution centre.

    Experience Required:

    8 - 12 years Required in Warehousing & Distribution, Transport, FMCG, QRS or Similar.

    Qualification:

    Relevant tertiary degree, honors degree in Business / Supply Chain Management or similar; an MBA would be advantageous.

    Computer Literacy Required:

    • MS Office (PowerPoint, Projects, Word, Outlook)
    • Advanced MS Excel skills are required.
    • Advanced Warehouse Management System (WMS) Skills
    • Experience with accounting software.
