Psybergate is an IT company that builds bespoke software solutions and provides highly skilled resources to its clients. We are looking for a Database Administrator (DBA) to join our financial services client based in Sandton for a 12-month contract role.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Create and maintain business database objects within an IDMS and DB2 subsystem.
  2. Perform database tuning to ensure the DBMS functions at optimal levels.
  3. Schedule database maintenance tasks.
  4. Troubleshoot database and DBMS errors and provide solutions to support business when required.
  5. Provide input and implement operational and business strategies, industry best practices, and ensure necessary ITO governance is in place.
  6. Perform database monitoring and notifications to ensure optimal data access, supporting business database applications in line with contractual agreements.
  7. Serve as a database consultant, providing design solutions to Business Development and Service Management for current and future projects.
  8. Be an integral part of the disaster recovery (DR) team, designing, performing, and documenting DR procedures.
  9. Service all incidents, changes, and requests, ensuring SLAs are met.
  10. Enforce security standards to prevent data compromise and maintain database integrity.
  11. Provide managerial reports on database utility, capacity, and utilization for informed decision-making.
  12. Maintain relationships with suppliers for incident handling.
Qualifications & Experience
  • IT degree or equivalent industry accreditation preferred.
  • At least 8 years in the IT industry, with 5+ years as an operational DBA in a large, complex corporate environment.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with IDMS / DB2 databases.
  • Understanding of mainframe OS concepts and experience in other mainframe disciplines.

Package & Remuneration: Monthly
