Axium Education, established in , serves over 10, learners across two education districts in the Eastern Cape.

Based in the rural village of Zithulele, our vision is for every rural learner to leave school with purpose, agency, and options. We are looking for a Data Systems Developer who is passionate about our mission and has the experience, expertise, and drive to succeed in this key role.

Purpose of the Role

As a Data Systems Developer, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a robust, scalable data system that meets the needs of our organisation.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  1. Design, build, test, and maintain Axium's central data system, including the central database and user interfaces.
  2. Collaborate with the Tech and Data & Assessments teams to ensure the system is robust, scalable, well-documented, and manageable by others with relevant technical skills.
  3. Conduct extensive testing and implement feedback from data capturers to ensure easy data capture in settings with intermittent internet connectivity.
  4. Assist with training and provide ongoing support for system adoption and use.

Technical Competencies

  1. Database management (Salesforce an advantage)
  2. Software development (Python an advantage)
  3. Experience with or willingness to learn Google AppSheet, Google Sheets and related technologies.
  4. Experience with app development and/or database administration will be an advantage.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field is required.
  2. 1 - 2 years experience as a Software Developer or Database Administrator.
  3. OR a graduate degree (Hons / Masters) in a related field.

General Requirements

  1. The successful applicant will be required to be based in Zithulele for the first month for onboarding and may work remotely thereafter if desired.
  2. Experience working within a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) is advantageous.
  3. Fluent in both English and isiXhosa is essential.
  4. A valid driver's license is required.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with staff at all levels.
  6. Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  7. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive under pressure.
