Job description

Data Scientist – Centurion – R500k up to R700k per annum

POSITION INFO :

A client rapidly expanding with international ambitions, developing multiple valuable products in supplier risk, customer risk, and third-party risk management, is recruiting a Data Scientist to apply data mining techniques and conduct statistical analysis on large, structured, and unstructured data sets.

Responsibilities :

1. Perform routine data cleaning and analysis tasks.
2. Identify patterns and correlations in data to formulate hypotheses.
3. Translate data insights into practical actions to improve results.
4. Modify rule-based scorecards, frameworks, and tune algorithms.
5. Expose models and scorecards to other systems via API or queue.
6. Automate analytical activities through scheduling.
7. Select relevant modeling approaches based on problem type and data (e.g., Logistic Regression, Random Forest).
8. Train and maintain predictive models.
9. Perform data cleaning and pre-processing (size, distribution, imputation, outlier removal).
10. Develop features targeted at specific predictable outcomes.
11. Apply model performance evaluation methods appropriately (classification metrics, confusion matrix).

Qualifications & Experience :

1. Degree in engineering, data science, statistics, computer science, or a related quantitative field.
2. 5-7 years of software development, financial data processing, or business intelligence experience.
3. Experience working with unstructured data (streams, images) and understanding data flows, architecture, ETL processes.
4. Advanced knowledge of statistical and machine learning applications in fintech.
5. Experience with natural language processing.
6. Ability to implement dimensional modeling (SCD, fact tables, schemas).
7. Proficiency with data science tools such as SAS, R, SPSS.
8. Knowledge of IT infrastructure and data principles, with project management experience.
9. Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau.
