My client is looking for a Data Scientist to join their Chief Underwriting Office Team. This exciting opportunity is ideal for an individual passionate about driving analytics and the data science agenda within a dynamic organization. The primary objective of this role is to enhance the decision-making process through insights, analytics, machine learning, and AI, ultimately adding value to critical business functions such as Underwriting, Claims, Sales, and Product Design.
Duties & Responsibilities
Job Opportunity: Data Scientist
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct statistical analysis, forecasting, predictive modeling, simulation, and optimization to uncover trends, opportunities, and threats.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of new data sources and gathering techniques.
- Improve data collection procedures to include relevant information for building analytical systems.
- Design and develop advanced quantitative analytics models to answer business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Stay updated with advancements in analytics technology and methodologies.
- Serve as a technical expert in machine learning languages, packages, and techniques.
- Mentor and guide Junior Data Scientists and Analysts.
- Present findings to management and the business using data visualization techniques.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and deliver key business opportunities where analytics can drive bottom-line value.
- Drive the adoption of data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Partner with teams to define business requirements and expected outcomes for analysis and solution design.
- Build and maintain data science solutions, including using machine learning, cloud technologies, and APIs.
- Migrate on-premises solutions to the cloud and help drive business value through data science.
- Assist with the development of necessary infrastructure (databases, BI tools, modeling software) to support the analytics agenda.
- Collaborate closely with the business to understand how analytics and data science can enhance their operations.
- Perform any additional duties necessary to support the operational effectiveness of the company.
Required Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
- 4-6 years of experience in a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in big data analytics, database mining, statistical modeling, and programming.
- Knowledge of database analytical tools and statistical packages.
li>Experience with classification models, anomaly detection, regression, and neural networks.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL Server, Power BI, Excel, and PowerPoint; Azure is a plus.
- Understanding of APIs in Python.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Excellent project management and delivery skills.
- Excellent relationship management and facilitation skills.
Educational Requirements:
- Matric.
- A Degree in Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Data Science.
