Job summary

FirstRand Life Assurance Ltd seeks a data scientist to build, optimise and implement quantitative analytical methodologies, procedures and advanced models to support business opportunities and strategy. You will work under guidance to deliver insights and predictions.

The role focuses on customer analytics, segmentation and data feature engineering, requiring SAS/SQL coding and familiarity with big data. A collaborative, results-driven team player with strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years’ experience within Data Analytics or Customer Analytics.
• 0Experience in Model development, maintenance and optimisation will be advantageous.
• Intermediate proficiency to code in SQL is required.
• Intermediate proficiency to code in SAS will be advantageous.
• Intermediate skills in Python or R would be beneficial.

Job Description To build, optimise and implement innovative quantitative analytical methodologies, procedures, and advanced mathematical models that provide analytical support and interpret insights, to address business opportunities and problems and implement business strategy, under guidance against predicted results and deliver according to set processes and procedures. The purpose is to deliver analytical insights that supports the business at large. Some of the core team deliverables refer to Customer Engagements, Customer Segmentation and Data Feature Engineering. This is achieved through robust data modelling and analysis as well as statistical modelling.

Qualification and Experience

• Minimum Qualification: B Degree in Mathematical Sciences, Statistics, Actuarial Science or related degree
• Preferred Qualification: Honours Degree
• Experience: 1 - 2 years’ experience within Data Analytics or Customer Analytics
• Experience in Model development, maintenance and optimisation of existing models will be advantageous.
• Intermediate level of proficiency to code in SQL is required
• Intermediate level of proficiency to code in SAS will be advantageous
• Intermediate skills in Python or R would be beneficial
